<p>The major principle for losing weight is the equation that says you must eat fewer calories than you burn.  So if you want to lose weight quickly, you will need to accelerate this.  Now before you put yourself on a severely restricted diet, keep in mind that if your body goes into what is called starvation mode, your metabolism will slow down and your body will not burn fat and calories as quickly as you would if you were eating several small, low calorie and nutritious meals a day and exercising on a regular basis.</p>
<p>A quick weight loss diet usually will aim for around a daily intake of about 1200-1800 calories per day.  Anything less than 1200 could be potentially dangerous. Don&#8217;t listen to the &#8220;experts&#8221; pushing &#8220;quick weight loss diets&#8221; that tell you to starve yourself. No matter what type of diet you decide to go on, it is best to check with your doctor or a dietitian first.</p>
<p>To lose weight quickly, you might be able to eat about 1200 calories a day and exercise for one hour each day.  This is about the limit that most bodies can handle, and again you will need to check with your physician.  With this type of diet and exercise regime you could reasonably expect to lose about three to five pounds during the early weeks and then approximately three pounds a week going forward.  This is quick way to lose weight.  However, most weight loss experts say that a reasonable weight loss goal is to aim for losing about a pound a week.</p>
<p>The main point that needs to be emphasized here is that whether you want to lose weight quickly or over a longer period of time, the principles are the same.  It comes down to consuming fewer calories than you burn. That&#8217;s really all there is to a diet for quick weight loss. Eating healthy, low calorie foods and combining that with a good exercise program will help you burn off calories and fat and you will start to lose weight.  A quick weight loss diet will push the number of calories consumed as well as the amount of exercise you need to do.  In other words, in order to lose weight quickly you will need to put in extra effort in terms of your calories as well as the amount of exercise you do each day.</p>

<p>There are several advantages to this type of diet.  One is its simplicity.  You just focus on the number of calories you are consuming which is fairly simple.  It can also save time for people who feel they are too busy to prepare a lot of home cooked meals or feel they are too busy to do a lot of exercising.  Going on a low calorie diet plan can also be effective in losing weight fast, at least for the short term.</p>
<p>There are also several drawbacks and several potential negative effects that could result from going on a low calorie diet.  The focus is on calories and not sound nutrition.  So eating low calorie foods alone will not focus on eating healthy, nutritious foods.  Because of this, some of these diets may be only short term fixes and not provide a lasting solution.  Once you go off the diet you may very well gain the weight back.</p>
<p>Another potential problem is severely cutting back on calories can slow your metabolism way down.  Your metabolism is what converts your food into energy, so if it slows down you won&#8217;t be burning as many calories and fat.</p>
<p>There can also be potentially negative side effects to eating a low calorie diet.  You may suffer from symptoms such as nausea, constipation, diarrhea and fatigue.</p>
<p>Weight loss is a fairly simple formula. If you consume fewer calories than you burn, then you will lose weight. However, as I said above, you should focus on a healthy low calorie diet. Just eating celery is not a good low calorie diet. You may quickly drop pounds, but you quickly become malnourished. You can&#8217;t just focus on calorie controlled diets. Be smart about your food choices. When putting together a meal plan, don&#8217;t just look at how many calories there are in the meal.</p>
<p>It should also be said that a diet for men isn&#8217;t really any different than a diet for women. The same metabolic principals apply: eat less than you burn and you will lose weight.</p>
<p>The best way to lose weight is to eat healthy, low calorie foods and exercise.  Just counting calories alone is not likely to result in lasting weight loss.  However, a low calorie diet can be effective if it is based on eating a combination of healthy foods and getting regular exercise.</p>
