There is increasing interest and media attention being focused on green tea weight loss plans these days.  In addition to drinking the tea itself, there are many weight loss products available including green tea supplements, green tea pills and even a green tea diet patch, all claiming to help with weight loss.

Green tea also helps to regulate your blood sugar level and inhibits fat absorption.  An excess blood sugar level results in our bodies storing these sugars as fat rather than burning them as energy.  Catechins contained in green tea helps to regulate your blood sugar level from spiking too high when you eat which helps to inhibit your body from storing sugars as fat.

Maintaining a healthy blood sugar level also means that you will have fewer food cravings.  Green tea is also filling.  In other words, another way that green tea helps with weight loss is by helping to suppress your appetite.

Drinking green tea is not a cure all for losing weight.  Studies have shown that drinking 3-5 cups of this beverage on a daily basis can help you to burn around 70-80 calories per day.  This is not sufficient on its own for losing weight.  However, if you incorporate drinking green tea along with eating a healthy diet and getting plenty of exercise on a regular basis, then green tea can be effective in helping you to lose weight.  If you are concerned  about the moderate level of caffeine contained in green tea, you may want to investigate green tea supplements which are often made with decaffeinated tea instead.
